Design Guidelines

Lastly in Chapter 3 of the Framework Report, the focus group on design guidelines and related recommendations was described. This group discussed how Agonda should be developed physically… how it should look, what types of streets are desired, how the buildings and roads affect the natural rain water cycle, what materials should be used in construction and the importance of considering sustainability when making decisions about the built form of Agonda. Some excerpts are below…

“Design guidelines can improve the level of quality for the physical environment. In conjunction with these guidelines, the importance of introducing sustainable practices into the processes was suggested. For example:

  • choosing suitable sites for new developments
  • water management practices
  • locally produced building materials
  • controlled harvesting of materials

Finally it was explained how the information gathered by other focus groups could help develop design guidelines, considering all the recommendations simultaneously finding synergies to create coordinated proposals.”
